India writes letter to US, urgently needs 24 Romeo helicopters
The Indian government is preparing to buy 24 Multi Roll MH-60 Romeo Anti-submarine helicopters from the US for Navy. According to sources, the deal will be worth 2 billion dollars (about 144 billion rupees). India needs these helicopters for more than a decade. Given the urgent need of 24 multi-roll helicopters, India sent a Letter of Request to the United States. In recent months, the defense agreements have accelerated between the two countries.
The administration of President Donald Trump has opened the door of military equipment with its high-tech capacity, considering India’s defense needs. In the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US Vice President Mike Pence in Singapore on Wednesday, the defense agreement remains in priority. After this meeting, it is expected that Prime Minister Modi and US President Donald Trump meet in Germantown in Argentina on November 30 and December 1. However, no party has confirmed this meeting.
According to sources, the MH-60 Romeo Deal is expected to be offset protection. India is also working on a plan to create such 123 helicopters in the country with immediate need. At present, the MH-60 is the most advanced marine helicopter being used by the US Navy. Given the activation of China in the Indian Ocean region, it is considered to be very important for the Indian Navy. Once the deal is completed, the Indo-US defense trade will exceed the level of $ 20 billion ($ 1440 billion).
