India celebrated womens day in a different style by help help of Indian Railways. On the International Women’s Day, Northern Railway gifted women employees a special gift of confidence and self-sustainability. A train was run from the charbagh railway station to the capital, Lucknow, in which loco pilot and all other staffs were all female.
The Govindpuri railway station of Kanpur became a railway sation to be fully operated by the women employees. Satish Kumar, the Divisional Manager of Northern Railway said that Lucknow Prayag Intercity has been departed from the Charbagh railway station at 7:30 in the morning. He said that this train is special because the entire staff of the train were female employees of the railways from loco pilot to the TTE and the GRP staff everyone was a lady. In this train, Mundri Devi, Vijay Lakshmi, Shashibala Pal, Narayani Devi and Urmila Devi were posted as TTE, while Mamta Yadav was deployed as assistant loco pilot. MC Chauhan, General Manager, North Central Railway (NCR) said that Govindpuri station of Kanpur is completely made as a women station. The whole staff deployed here is women, from the ticket distribution to the station master, all the staff will be women. Lucknow’s DRM Satish said that the joy of getting this respect was reflected on the face of these women who reached the station in their uniform. These women said that they are very happy with the responsibility given to them. There was a time when it was understood that women can work only at home. Now women have come forward in every field and are taking responsibility for important positions. He said that now the whole trains responsibility is now given to the female staff and he is very happy. He said that his confidence has increased. He also mentioned that this important step has been taken in the direction of empowerment of women. According to Chauhan, the napkin vending machine has been installed on Allahabad and Kanpur railway station platforms and in Allahabad NCR headquarters. On the women’s day, napkin pad vending machine were also installed at Lucknow junction of North Eastern Railway.
