Army Chief Bipin Rawat says that with changing patterns in terrain, armoured vehicles like battle tanks must have the capacity and capability to operate on the western as well as the northern borders.
Rawat was addressing th3 inaugural session of a seminar on ‘Future Armoured Vehicles India 2017’ when with a sense of responsibility Rawat warned that the future warfare will be hybrid and so forces need to build the capability to deal with it.
Further, he added that it’s challenging that parts of Thar desert are hardening with the development of canals, barren land has turned green and population density has increased.
He continuously emphasized that the battlefield will turn complex… and the terrain will add to the complexities. Also, he said that whatever weapons are going to be introduced must be capable of interoperability on both fronts.
Rawat mentioned that the Army is looking forward at modernizing its mechanical forces and there should be a timeline for the purpose. He asserted that the Army is looking to introduce modern tanks and ICVs ( Infantry Combat Vehicle) from 2025-2027.
